Vietnam Restructures Its Provincial System: From 63 to 34 Units – No Impact on Tourist Experiences
As officially announced by the Government of Vietnam, starting July 1, 2025, the country will undergo an administrative restructuring to streamline provincial units from 63 down to 34.

This reform aims to enhance administrative efficiency, promote regional economic growth, and strengthen inter-provincial infrastructure, service, and tourism linkages – ultimately creating a more integrated travel experience for visitors.

- Before: Three separate provinces (Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh)
- After: May be grouped under a new administrative region (e.g., “Bac Trung Hung” – provisional name) Benefit: Simplified permits and logistics, allowing for smoother tour coordination across destinations
Central Vietnam: Hue – Da Nang – Hoi An – Quang Ngai
- Before: Four provinces with separate administrative procedures
- After: Potentially merged as a “Central Heritage Tourism Cluster” Benefit: Visitors can experience ancient Hue, the charming town of Hoi An, and My Khe beach all in one integrated itinerary
Central Highlands: Gia Lai – Dak Lak – Lam Dong
- After restructuring: May be grouped into an administrative region such as the “Green Highlands” (provisional name)
- Benefit: Easier inter-provincial travel across the Central Highlands and Da Lat with streamlined procedure.
