Songkhla Overview

Songkhla is a quiet city, famous for its beautiful beach resort. Formerly a pirate shelter, Songkhla has a quiet, deserted nature. There is also Songkhla Prince University, one of Thailand's leading educational institutions.

Songkhla has two main beaches: Samila beach and Son Onn beach. Samila Beach is a soft white sand strip stretching 3 km with smooth green pine trees running parallel. Behind the beach is a Khao Noi hill with a bonsai garden and a panoramic view of the city. Bai Son Onn is just north of Samila. Here is also the shade of pine trees. Offshore Songkha has Cat Island (Cat Island) and Rat Island (Mouse Island), famous for its squamous fish.

Songkhla National Museum, located in Songkhla city of Songkhla, was established in the 1870s, built according to Chinese architecture of Southern Thailand with artifacts from prehistoric to modern. In Songkhla there is also Matchimawat Temple and Chaimongkhom Temple which is well known. Matchimawat is an ancient temple dating back 400 years, the largest religious site in Songkhla. Chaimongkhom Temple is a place to keep Buddha's relics taken from Sri Lanka. There is also Pak Nam Laem fortress built in the early 1800s.
